Waw/vav is the 6th letter of the Hebrew alphabet. It is pronounced as vav. ו It means "hook", and is used to describe the hooks that held the curtains up in the tabernacle. Because a hook has the job of "connection", spiritually speaking, the waw/vav implies the connection between spiritual and earthly matters. It also symbolizes the connecting force of God, the divine "hook" that binds together heaven and earth. Our v-word is vivouni, which means to "come in".
The student is hoping for a connection with the Teacher. He invites God to come in and bring His steadfast love (chesed=my favorite word in all of scripture!!) The classroom bully has made another appearance, and the author needs a nudge from the Teacher on how to answer him. Once the Teacher gives him his lines, he's going to finally get the courage to not just know them but speak them!! This success gives him a new attitude--he's no longer clinging to dust, but he's walking confidently in wide places. Now that he's stood up to the bully, the student is ready to speak truth to anyone, from the king on down.
Is anyone else starting to connect the dots when it comes to the trustworthy laws of God? As we've said, thinking of rules and regulations sometimes makes us feel a little nervous, as if God is maybe no fun and just wants us to jump through hoops. But God, the One who loves us most, made the first step to connect with us. He wants to bind our lives on earth to Christ Jesus, the steadfast love from heaven, the promised salvation. This section changes me by reminding me that the connection to God is not restrictive, making us feel bound as in handcuffed. It's a binding that makes us freer than ever before, a healing connection that allows us to walk confidently. Lift your hands in praise!!
