The letter He ה has the meaning "look" or "behold". According to ancient Jewish mystics, He (pronounced hey) represents divine breath. Such as in Psalm 33:6, "By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and by the breath of his mouth all their host." According to another ancient Hebrew commentary, yod (the 10th letter, which we will learn about next week) left aleph and joined to dalet and formed He. (Hang with me here, I know it's a little nerdy, but it plays out.) Since aleph represents God and dalet represents the brokenness of humanity, "He" is the picture of the presence of God within the human heart. This can be seen in the stories of Abram and Sarai, who became AbraHam and SaraH when God breathed His presence into their hearts. 💓 "Hovreni" is our h-word, which means teach.
Each verse begins with a verb--teach, give, lead, incline, turn, confirm, and turn again. The student is asking the Teacher to breathe life into his education so that he can then react properly. This should be our goal every single time we open God's Word. What's the point of studying the Bible if we have no intention of letting it change us and give us life? We should use this section as a template, breathing in the perfect law of the Lord and breathing out obedience that is born of thankfulness. Let the promises of God be confirmed in our actions, for our good and for His Glory (vs. 38) And if you have to add an H to your name to signify that it's God's breath alone that is giving you life, then do it.
Love, Aliciah 💓
