Lamedh--Psalm 119:89-96 (The Aleph Tav of Psalm 119)

.

The lamedh (lamed) is the 12th letter ל and as such, is considered the central, or heart of the Hebrew Alphabet.  It is the tallest letter and the only letter to go above the baseline.  The original meaning of the letter was something like "goad or prod", such as a shepherd may prod his sheep to action.  The Hebrew word for the letter means to learn or teach, first used in Deuteronomy 4:1.  Learning and knowing God's Word is meant to prod us to love and action.  Our L word is leovlam, which means "forever".

After a brief relapse in to distress, the student is getting back to the center of his education.  To reorient himself, he looks for evidence of the Teacher's presence.  He looks up and sees the creation of God firmly fixed in the heavens.  He looks around and sees both the past and present faithfulness of God in all things living.  He looks down and sees the firm foundation of a stable earth and knows that it's because God is in control.  The student looks inside his own mind to see the pleasure learning has brought him.  And he finally looks inside his heart, where he has stored these life-giving words from the most loving Teacher.   Everything around him and everything he is came from the hand of God., and he wants that trend to continue! Everything listed--heaven, people, earth, creation, himself--will pass away.  It has limits.  But the Word of God lives forever.

I need to have this pattern of reorientation tattooed on my forehead. 🤦  I so quickly get drawn away by the anxiety of life and just wallow there.   The wicked lying in wait are too often my own fears and insecurities. Looking to myself for answers has no end but death.  But if I have learned and embraced and loved God's Word, it will serve as a prod to look again.  He saved me once and He saves me still.  He has given me life AND revived me to new life.  Forever, He is faithful.
