S--Psalm 145
O--David is singing a song of praise that lifts high the name of God his King! He promises to bless His name "forever and ever". These words, repeated in verses 2 and 21, are not an over-exaggeration of David's intention. The word "forever" means "from time past to time future". The word "ever" means "endless and constant, eternity". So David is vowing to bless the name of the Lord--and he prays that eventually all flesh will join in--both inside and outside of time. The greatness of God can't exactly be explained, but it can be greatly praised! David took seriously the obligation of passing the works of God to the next generation. As for himself, he vows to spend his time meditating on all he can know and learn about God. The works of God speak for themselves, making the name of the One who performs them Famous!! God's creation and actions sing loudly of His righteousness and bow in thanks to their Creator. The children of man can truly know God's glorious, everlasting kingdom by simply looking and listening to creation and to followers of God. The Lord is faithful and kind. He lifts us and holds us. He is our provider in every way. He is righteous and kind, he is near to all who call on Him with a desire for HIS truth, but He cannot and will not promise deliverance to the wicked. As David sings all of these attributes of God--righteous, timeless, goodness, kindness, faithfulness--it leads him to speak praise and to desire that all flesh will bow before God, for all time and for eternity.
A--The words "forever and ever" change me. (I'm pretty sure we talked about these words in another psalm). I have desired and do desire to serve God in the time I have, in my past and in my future. But I also know God is not restrained by time, and I desire to praise Him in eternity, too. The kindness of God draws us to repentance, leading us to cry out to the only One who can save us from our sins. When I call on Him, He delivers me and preserves me for eternity through the atoning blood of His Son, Christ Jesus. So in Him, I can speak the praise of the Lord and bless His holy name forever and ever! 😍
K--Help me to desire to praise You right now, for the rest of the time I have left, and for eternity.
