Psalm 144

Psalms 101-150 are done using the SOAK method--Scripture Observation Application Kneel in prayer

S--Psalm 144

O--David is recognizing God's work in every part of his life.  He is humbled to know that it's not by his own strength and power that he's had any success.  It's  God who created him to be the warrior/soldier he is; it's God who is constant and strong and safe; it's God who lifts David up and delivers him; it's God who has shielded him and given him men to surround him.  All of this leads David to wonder why this great BIG GOD invests so much love and time into mortal man.  David boldly asks God  to rescue and deliver him from any trials, and he asks Him to put on a big show for his enemies!! One of David's jobs for King Saul is to play music and sing for him, and David uses this same talent to sing a new song to the King of Kings.  (1 Samuel 16:14-23)  Rescue and deliverance is a theme in this chapter.  I can picture verses 12-14 as a "toast" of sorts among David and his men.  Blessed are the people whose God is the Lord!

A--This chapter changes me in the pivotal verses 3 and 4.  Just as David recognizes God at work in his life. so I should recognize Him in mine.  And just like David, I wonder "Why me?  Why any of us?"  Why did God take the time to create us, knowing we would mess up the little time we have?   But He did and He poured out His extravagant, never ending  love through His Son, Christ Jesus. For us.  He loved us first.  That  changes me.  💗

K--I will sing to You a new song out of the overflow of my heart.  You are my God and I am blessed.
