S--Psalm 139
O--A psalm written by David, acknowledging God as the one who knows him best. He has searched him inside and out, watched his every move, heard every word, read his mind and thoughts. God has known David, loved him, protected him--and it blows David's mind. David starts thinking about it even deeper--there's really nowhere he has been or can go that is out of the reach of God. Even in his mother's womb, God was in control of David's life (going back to verse 8 in chapter 138, God's purpose for David began at conception. 💓) As he contemplates all of this, it boggles his mind again, keeping him awake with the wonder of it all. Since he knows God is in control, he asks the author of his purpose to knock out any obstacles, mostly in the form of those he considers enemies. But he bows to the ultimate authority of God to know his thoughts, to judge them for right and wrong, and to lead him to the way that lasts forever and sees the purpose fulfilled!!
A--This chapter is famous for a lot of reasons--wonderful words of David as he contemplates God. One verse is known for it's "self-esteem" building theme-- "I praise You, because I am fearfully and wonderfully made." David realizes, as shown when read in context, that this is not about him but about the God who is both fearful and wonderful. I love that this great king, who has access to every "modern" thing, is blown away by the thoughts, actions, and words of God. He is not threatened by how closely aware God is of his every more, he is in awe of it!! He welcomes the searching and the knowing of the One who loves him most.
K--I pray to have a heart and mind and life open to You. I welcome the searching and the knowing.
