Psalm 137

Psalms 101-150 are done using the SOAK method--Scripture Observation Application Kneel in prayer

S--Psalm 137

O--Just as the people of Israel had much to rejoice about, they also had much to mourn.  They are a people of song, (as we've spent the last several chapters learning!) but there have been times they just didn't have a song in their hearts.  They've been captives and exiles; they've been tormented and ridiculed.  They would rather hang up their musical instruments than to sing a song to their captors' laughter.  They turn their hearts and minds to Jerusalem, the city of peace, the city of God's Presence.  They know that vengeance belongs to God, and that their enemies will ultimately be destroyed.

A--I grew up singing this song--"Sometimes it's not easy being a child of the King.  And sometimes the song that He gives us is kind of hard to sing." I feel that more now than ever.  If you watch the news at all ( I watch it very little, but its enough), it would be easy to extinguish any song in our hearts and just sit and cry.  But don't forget our Jerusalem--our Prince of Peace, God with us, Christ Jesus!!  Remember Him, set Him above our highest joy!  It may seem like evil will and is winning, but it won't and it's not.

K--The sun comes up, It's a new day dawning. It's time to sing Your song again. Whatever may pass and whatever lies before me--Let me be singing when the evening comes. (Matt Redman--10,000 Reasons)
