S--Psalm 135
O--This psalm is all praise!! They've entered the temple and the outer courts to worship. There was a certain ranking to where people could stand before God. But no matter where they stand, they are in the house of their God! I love how the psalmist identifies several attributes (characteristics) of God. He starts with praise for the great name of the Lord. Then His--
- Transcendence--vs 5--God is unlike any being in our experience and so no analogy or comparison can be made
- Sovereignty--vs 6--God's divine control
- Immanence--vs 7--God working through creation to produce a love for His Word, His Gospel, and Himself
- Omnipotence--vs 8-12--God's unlimited power to accomplish any thing that can be accomplished
- Self-Existence--vs 13--God has existed eternally and will always exist.
- Justice--vs 14--God is the ultimate judge and He cannot over punish or under punish.
- Immutability--vs 15-18--Not capable or subject to change (as opposed to the idols of the nations)
The psalmist then leads the tribe of Israel, the high priests, the priestly tribe to kneel before the Lord in praise!
A--This chapter changes me by helping me to learn the characteristics of God. We more fully know and understand the actions of those around us by studying their character. How much more should we study to know and understand our Great God! When we see His unchanging character at work, it leads to a fuller trust in Him. To fully know Him should be our desire!
K--You are trustworthy and I praise You!
