S--Psalm 134
O--Now that they've arrived at their destination, it's time to worship! The writer leads his fellow pilgrims to come and kneel before the Lord, joining the temple guards and others who live and work in the temple. They are raising their hands in praise, kneeling before God and blessing His name. They pray for the Lord to bless them while they are in Jerusalem, but they know His blessings don't end there!!
A--I have loved studying these books with the Songs of Ascent. I am a member of a mobile church; we meet in a local school gym and set up and take down every Sunday. This chapter really spoke to the location of worship, as the pilgrims have reached their destination. Not having our own building has it's drawbacks, one of them not having a "sanctuary". I love how the ESV really highlighted the fact that they were lifting their hands TO the holy place, not specifically translating it IN the holy place. That changes me by reminding me that God is Lord everywhere and is not held in any certain place. The children of Israel were commanded to go to the temple as part of their worship because that's where the Presence of God was, but even then they were foreshadowing the sacredness and the holiness of Christ Jesus. Now we lift our hands in worship to the One who makes His home in our hearts--Christ Jesus, Lord of heaven and earth.
K--I pray I keep these songs in my heart, following the pattern of the children of God as I come before You in worship.
