S--Psalm 121
O--Song of Ascents = "Song sung by Hebrew Pilgrims on their way to Jerusalem or possibly while ascending Mount Zion or the steps of the Temple. Psalm 120-134" (Merriam-Webster .com) God- who created heaven and earth-offers help, stability, 24 hour availability; He keeps us; He shades us and gives us comfort and a pleasant life. There is no fear with God, day or night. God will protect us and deliver us form evil. He is in control of our lives, for our good.
A--This makes this section of Psalms come alive to me! I can just picture a huge group of Hebrew people making their way to Jerusalem to worship. As they make the long trip, they are looking towards Jerusalem, the city of God. They are rehearsing His goodness. This chapter changes me by making me consider my actions before worship. Is my focus on creator God? Am I counting on Him for stability, or am I holding on for dear life to people and circumstances around me? Do I think there's a limit to what I trust God to do in my life? Do I picture that God has "down time", during which it's up to me to take over? Do I think any physical comfort I have comes from things I provide for myself? My help, for everything and forever, comes from God.
K--I pray, as I climb the hills of life, that my eyes are always lifted to you, God; and that I always recognize that in You I can find everything I need.
