Psalm 122

Psalm 101-150 are done using the SOAK  method--Scripture Observation Application Kneel in prayer

S--Psalm 122

O--Jerusalem means "Foundation of Peace". The tribes of Israel have been commanded to go to Jerusalem to worship, give thanks, and sacrifice.  These are called "pilgrimage feasts"--Passover, Pentecost, and Tabernacles.  David says to pray for the peace of Jerusalem, and then teaches them to pray.  They should pray for security and peace for those who love God.   He makes sure the reader understands that this is corporate worship that God has called them to.  He desires peace on the pilgrimage for himself, for his brothers and companions, and for the utmost importance of bringing glory and praise into the presence of God.

A--During this time of lockdown, I've missed corporate worship with my church family.  Just as the tribes of Israel, under the first covenant, were instructed to go to a specific place -the temple-to worship God in His presence, so are we, believers under the new covenant, bought with the blood of Christ Jesus, commanded to meet together for corporate worship.  It's important to come together and lift our voices as one for the Lord our God, and to pray together as one for the sake of the name of Christ Jesus.

K--Help me to remember how important it is to rejoice at the idea of coming to Your house.  You deliver us, You provide for us, and You have restored us no less than You did the people of Israel.  Fill my heart with gladness.
