S--Psalm 104
O--David comes before God in praise. He started in chapter 102 looking inward, complaining about his own afflictions and distress. His mortality. He continues in 103 with the realization that God is steadfast in His love for us. Although our lives are limited to time and space, God has promised to work for upright living and justice through generations. David now looks around at the covenant God has with nature, clothing Himself in the light of the heavens. He has made His home in all that stretches before us in the heavens and the earth, from height to depth. Everything is in His command and for His use. God has provided all of creation with everything it needs to thrive. Boundaries were set and obeyed by all He has made. The mountains, oceans, rain, springs, trees, crops, animals, plants, the sun, the moon, all in sync to the sound of God's voice. God literally thought of everything!!💓 David's rehearsal of all God has done in creation leads him to praise God in song with great rejoicing.
A--This chapter changes me by guiding me to look for God in everything around me. The beauty of creation causes us to be awestruck, but it's not Mother Nature's handiwork! God has made a covenant with His creation to provide for its every need. We have a certain duty to treat His world with respect, but ultimately whether it lives or dies is up to God. vs 27 is my favorite "They all look to you". If God has covenanted with His creation, to provide for and create boundaries and purpose for each thing--and even the animals in the deepest part of the ocean KNOW to look to Him, how much more should we, the people He loves enough to create in His own image.
K--Oh Lord, You Are Very Great! As all of creation looks to You for everything it needs, so will I.
