S--Psalm 105
O--David rehearses the history of Israel to remind himself of all God has accomplished for and through them. God has chosen Israel to be His people, forming a covenant with them that He will never break. David reminds himself of God's work through Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, and Aaron. The people of Israel started small, basically through one homeless, wandering family. But God covered them with His provision and His protection. God rescued them over and over, bringing them from hunger to satisfaction; from slavery to freedom; from darkness to light; from homelessness to inhabitants of a beautiful homeland. This time David spends in rehashing the history of God and Israel brings him to a prayer of praise!
A--The creation speaks for God, now it's our turn!! This chapter changes me by reminding me I have a part in the story of God. I should sing or speak His deeds among the peoples. Make His Name famous, to the joy of those who long for news of Him. Look for God in every situation now, and if I can't see the way now, rehearse all He has done. Either in my own life, in the lives of others, and don't be afraid to go back to the beginning of time to find His fingerprints over all. It's so, so easy to get discouraged as I look around, hoping for "a sign" that God is still in control. But King David has encouraged me to look again, the signs are there from history past, now, and forever. "Is the glory of the Lord to be the light within our midst? It is. Is it good that we remind ourselves of this? It is!"
K--I rehearse Your goodness and provision in my life, for my own good and for Your Glory.
