Solomon worked 20 years total, building the temple and the palace. God, once again, confirms both His conditional and unconditional covenants. Conditional—family dynasty. Unconditional—royal dynasty in Christ.
I was listening to a podcast a few days ago, the subject was the English Constitution. (I know, I’m boring
). One part stuck out to me concerning the chapters this week. The English Constitution has 2 basic governing bodies. According to Walter Bagehot (author), the Dignified, which is royalty; and the Efficient, which is parliament. I think we could say this is the distinction God is making to Solomon. One building, the temple, houses royalty—an eternal, unconditional covenant. The second building, the palace, houses the government—a conditional covenant. Of course, the comparison of English Constitution and God’s Word doesn’t fit across the board. But it shed a different light on the passage for me.
