What a chapter!!
I read it and listened to it several times and am still a little confused. Lots of trickery, insults, crazy requests, crazier promises. God granted King Ahab’s army (the size of two little flocks of goats compared to the enormous Syrian army) victory, not because Ahab or the Israelites deserved victory. God is a covenant God, He had promised Israel He would be their God, they would be His people. So to uphold His attribute of promise maker/promise keeper, God allows this victory for His own Name’s sake. He proved He is the God of the hills, valleys, and plains.
Ezekiel 20:14 says “But I acted for the sake of my name, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations, in whose sight I had brought them out.”
Ezekiel 36:32 says “It is not for your sake that I will act, declares the Lord God; let that be known to you. Be ashamed and confounded for your ways, O house of Israel.”
I would rather bring glory to God’s name out of pure love and devotion to Him; but I know even in my sin, God will work for the testimony of His Own Name.
I pray people know God is the God of hills and valleys because of my actions led by God, not because He’s had to intervene in my sinfulness.
