1 Kings 2

David is dying, so he is giving Solomon some final instruction, both for his personal life and his rule. Adonijah asks Bathsheba to secure David’s young maid as his wife, which sets off a chain of events that rids Solomon’s kingdom of some men who had been disloyal to his father, as well. So, Solomon’s kingdom is established.

As out of touch David seemed with the raising of Adonijah, he is now pouring wisdom into Solomon. He is remembering the promise from God that, as long as his sons follow God with all their heart and soul, he would always have a descendant on the throne. We know that ultimately Jesus was born from David’s line. But I think these first verses really charge us with teaching our children to walk in the way of God; not only looking at the child in front of us, but seeing the generations that will be impacted
by our testimony.

I want my descendants to love you with all their heart and soul. I pray they walk with You, and let it start with me.
