Qoph--Psalm 119:145-152 (The Aleph Tav of Psalm 119)

ק The 19th letter is qoph.  It's pronounced kof and has the sound of q, as in queen.  When written, the left "leg" goes below the baseline, and the right "leg" is bent.  It's shape is similar to the 5th letter, He, which is the holy speech of God. But the bent leg gives it a meaning of unholy or negative thoughts.  Our q word today is qara, which means to cry.

The student is calling once again for help.  He rises before dawn, he's awake before the night watches, which last from sunset to sunrise.  His tormented thoughts are keeping him awake, thinking and rethinking his own choices and the choices of others.  Anxiety is trying to get the best of him.  But he continues to repeat the goodness of God.

I can relate to this section.  😢 90% of my panic attacks and general anxiety happen in the middle of the night.  I will be sleeping soundly, but something will wake me and the negative thoughts are lined up, ready to march in attack.  Too often, I let them in to do their damage, instead of calling out to God for help.  "Draw near" in verse 150, and "near" in verse 151 changed me.  (they are both q words.  It's like the author knew what he was doing or something....) They are from the same word;  the first "near" means the enemy is coming.  But the "near" in reference to God is He's already there.  Our letter today goes below the baseline, symbolizing negative thoughts.  But the bent "leg" invites transformation.  It's asking not only to be pulled out of the pit of pessimistic, hurtful thoughts--but to rise above them.  The enemy feels like it's closing in, and it's hard to see past it.  But by rehearsing the truth of the Word of God, our thoughts can be transformed from darkness to Light.  Philippians 4:8
