Heth, ח sometimes written Het or even Chet, is the 8th letter of the Hebrew Alphabet. Some say it's the hardest letter for English speakers to pronounce. The traditional "ch" spelling is sometimes translated as h, which is why we see Chanukah spelled as Hanukkah in English. The chet is the Vav (6th letter) and the Zayin (7th letter), connected with a yoke. This perfectly pictures our relationship to the Lord Jesus as He leads and teaches us. Our c word is chelki, which means portion or territory.
The author has staked his claim with God. He has yoked himself to the Teacher, becoming not just a student but a disciple. He hasn't only bought into His teachings with his mind, but with everything in him. The student cringes when he thinks of his own mistakes and rushes right back to the Teacher's rules. The classroom bully still torments, but the psalmist is not distracted. In fact, he may be even more zealous, waking in the night to praise. He has a new group of friends, fellow disciples of the Teacher. Everywhere he looks, he sees evidence of the unwavering, stubborn love of God, the faithful Teacher.
I named this blog The Beautiful Inheritance after Psalm 16:5-6 "The Lord is my chosen portion and my cup; you hold my lot. The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance." The word for chosen portion is our word--"chelki". This verse is so beautiful to me--why wouldn't we stake our claim with such a loving, providing God? 💓💓 I'm thankful for this group of companions, those who fear and long to know God. I love learning with you!!
