The word Beth comes from the word for house. For example, Bethlehem means "House of Bread" in Hebrew. The letter Beth is the first letter of the first word of the Bible--Bereshit "In the Beginning". Our B-Word today is bammeh, which means "How?" ב
The psalmist wonders how anyone can walk purely. He knows the answer--he knows a line is crooked by comparing it to what he knows is straight. Education begins at home (house). Even a child can know and understand the simplicity of right and wrong. Even a young person can build a "house" that honors God. We so deliberately teach the children in our lives things that protect them--warning them that something is hot or sharp or dangerous. Then they come to know for themselves--sometimes by warning, sometimes by learning the hard way. Much like a training exercise we have conducted as parents and teachers, the author leads himself in this discipline--Focus (with my whole heart); remember (I have stored your word); repeat (with my lips I declare); reflect (I will meditate on your precepts); refocus (I will fix my eyes on your ways); and then delight (the word here can mean "play"--RECESS!!!). Learning and knowing God's Word is better than all riches. The education process in the Bible--I love it!!!
