Aleph--Psalm 119:1-8 (The Aleph Tav of Psalm 119)

The word aleph means one, so the psalmist is leading us to start at the beginning--knowing the Word of the One who made us and loves us most.  Blessed is from the Hebrew word "ashar" which means happy or blessed. (That's our A word!!) 😊א

Law and it's synonyms are used 8 times.--law, testimonies, His ways, precepts, statutes, commandments, righteous rules, and statutes again.  We may get a little fidgety when we start hearing "rules and regulations". But blessed and happy are those whose first step is studying the textbook, the Bible.   This isn't a "cram for the test and then promptly forget everything" mindset.  We are to walk in it, keep it with all of our might (same word as in Deuteronomy 6:5),  seek it,  stubbornly follow it, fixate on it.  When we really learn what God says, the way He expects us to conduct ourselves for our good and His glory--and then follow through and do it--there is no shame.  There is no wrongdoing, no blame.  Only a whole, upright heart.  Only praise.

Is this even possible?  Can we walk without blame, without shame, without doing anything wrong?  If we look too far down the road, we feel defeated.  Today I want to follow God with everything in me.  But tomorrow I'm likely to swing the opposite way. My first step--even if it's the first step of the day, the first step of the hour, the first step of the minute-- is to deliberately look for and follow God's way.  When we seek God on purpose, it's not within His character to abandon us.  Praise Him!!
