Psalms 101-150 are done using the SOAK method--Scripture Observation Application Kneel in prayer
S--Psalm 149
O--Sing to the Lord a new song 🤗 When we gather together, that should be our goal, His highest praise! Israel (and we) should find gladness and rejoicing in our Creator King! Dancing, singing, musical instruments are all acceptable ways to bring praise to His Name. Our praise brings God pleasure, and He gladly dresses with salvation those who are not afraid to put self aside to praise Him. Those who would follow God should be glad in the glory of God. Our mission is that God's praise would ever be on our lips, and His Word would ever be in our hands. It's not in our power to execute vengeance and punishment but within the Word of God is the power to bring the world to justice and right living. This is an honor given to God's children, to share His Word and to sing His highest praise, with the end goal to compel others to come to Him.
A--One of my favorite ideas in the Bible is the idea of NEW. "Sing to the Lord a new song"; "behold I make all things new;"if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation". (Psalm 149:1; Revelation 21:5; 2 Corinthians 5:17) This chapter changes me by making me to see my role in this creation narrative. We, as children of God--children by adoption through Christ Jesus--are being given a commission to go and share the Word of God (the two-edged sword). His Word has the ability to pierce through physical and spiritual matters, both to execute vengeance and punishment and to lead to repentance. It's an honor to serve Him by singing His highest praise and carrying His Word to others.
K--Too often I act like Your Word is a burden instead of an honor. Tune my heart to sing your grace.
