S--Psalm 110
O--Psalm 110 is known as the Messianic Psalm. God talking to and about Jesus. In Psalm 108:8, we learned that Judah is the "scepter" of God. Scepter is an emblem of sovereignty. In Psalm 110 we learn that God is sending out this mighty scepter to rule in the midst of the enemies. This is a prophesy concerning Jesus, who will come from the tribe of Judah and will reign forever!
Melchizedek’s story is recorded in Genesis 14:18-20. Not much is known about him--some think he is the archangel Michael, the captain of the armies of heaven; that he might be the pre-incarnate Christ; or that he might be an actual, historical person. The title, King of Salem, seems to point to a heavenly title. Jesus is after the order of Melchizedek, a priest from a heavenly line of priests. So, in a sweeping story that can't be contained or explained in a few sentences, the humanity and divinity of Christ Jesus is perfectly laid out in this Psalm. Christ--along the lines of a priest and king of heaven, but One with God, working in tandem with both Father and Holy Spirit. Jesus, a man from the tribe of Judah, the tribe through which God chose to reveal Himself first to His chosen people, then to all the world!! Christ Jesus, Messiah, is everything God has sworn He is, and He will not change His mind. David, Jesus' most famous ancestor, has the great privilege to prophesy about the coming Messiah, the One who will rule both heaven and earth!!
A--This chapter fills me with all kinds of feelings!! I love the history of God's Word so much. I love the way facts and experiences are woven together to create this beautiful picture of God's overarching plan to save His beloved people. I even love that sometimes it's hard to understand because it shows that God's ways are bigger and better. This chapter changes me by drawing me to understand that Jesus is God, and His coming to save us has always been PLAN A with no plan b needed. He is our conquering Hero, bringing judgement to sin and to the king of sin, Satan. He will release the wide earth from the bonds of sin through His death and resurrection. He has sworn and He will not change His mind.
K--I pray to always have the heart of "Your people". I pray to always recognize the great power of Your Word. I offer myself freely to You, through the power of Your resurrection! Oh God, You are my God, and I will ever praise You!
