Obadiah is serving King Ahab, but is also loyal to the prophets of God. Elijah showed great faith and boldness as he calls on Israel to decide once and for all whom they will serve. The plea to Baal was a ceremony of tearing apart, disorder, and panic. The prayer of Elijah to God was one of rebuilding, detail, and trust; and of pouring out water to God during a drought.
We see two sides of Elijah in this account. First he is so bold in calling out Israel, mocking Baal and his priests, and calling on God in complete trust. Then in verses 41-44, as he prays for rain (that he already kinda taunted King Ahab was coming in vs 41) he has his servant running to check 7 times if the rain is here yet. I identify most closely with the second Elijah. I can be so bold in my declaration that God is going to do something, but in private, in my heart, I’m thinking “Go check, anything yet?” But the hand of God was on Elijah through it all.
Let me be willing to stand for You boldly, even when I’m a little shaky inside.
