When my mom was first diagnosed with dementia, she had a lot of anxiety. An occupational therapist told her when she felt anxious to look around the room for 5 straight lines. A picture frame, the straight lines of furniture, a window sill. Anything straight and that would start to make her feel grounded and stable, and her brain would feel less anxious. This is basically what God through Paul has done with these verses. Do not be anxious but pray. And if you’re still anxious, think on these things, these straight lines (true, honorable, just, pure, lovely commendable, excellent, praise worthy), and they will stabilize you and ground you in Him.
