We've spent 35 days (including our study before Easter) learning more about chesed, the steadfast lovingkindness of God toward us. I've learned a lot about God's loyalty to Israel, even at their worst. We've read multiple authors recount the disobedience of Israel (ad nauseum....😖), and have been inspired by our promise-making and promise-keeping God. On the day we studied Psalm 106, we wondered what our corporate story would sound like. We can't duplicate the matchless grace and mercy of God, so should we even try? We know God is steadfast to us, but can we possibly be steadfast to Him? Should we just take what He has to offer and do our best? I'm going to end this study by sharing 11 verses that prove God desires our steadfast love in return. He has pledged allegiance to us, because He is unwaveringly loving and kind. All I ask, to be like Him.
Steadfast to God in Life
Proverbs 11:19--Whoever is steadfast in righteousness will live,
but he who pursues evil will die.
James 1:12– “Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.”
Steadfast to God in Wisdom
Hosea 6:6--For I desire steadfast love and not sacrifice,
the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.
Proverbs 19:22--What is desired in a man is steadfast love,
and a poor man is better than a liar.
Proverbs 20:6--Many a man proclaims his own steadfast love,
but a faithful man who can find?
Steadfast to God in Joy
Psalm 57:7--“My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast! I will sing and make melody!”
Psalm 108:1--My heart is steadfast, O God!
I will sing and make melody with all my being!
Steadfast to God in Hope
Philippians 3:12-16--Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
Hebrews 6:19--We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain
Because my favorite part of Bible study is being able to tie the New Testament back to the Old Testament, I will end with these two verses. God-- steadfast, stubborn, unwavering, ardent, devoted, unflinching, dedicated to love, mercy, and grace--is the same in both testaments, both covenants, both promises. Jesus IS God most loving, God most merciful, God most gracious. I will hold fast to Him in love and allegiance.
Steadfast to God in Allegiance to Christ
Psalm 91:14--“Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him;
I will protect him, because he knows my name.
1 Corinthians 15:58--Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.
