The Fruit of the Spirit--Jesus Christ!!

We've learned a lot about the fruit of the Spirit over the last 11 days. We've learned how not to act according to our sinful nature; and how we should act and react according to the Spirit living and working within us.  We will wrap up this study by recognizing Jesus Christ as the ultimate example of these qualities.

One of the last things Jesus taught His disciples before His crucifixion was about the work of the Holy Spirit.  John 16:13-15 says "When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.  He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you.  All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you." The Trinity in action, all to advance the kingdom of God.  πŸ’“And we get to be a part of it! The evidence of the Spirit in us is first modeled in the character of Jesus, through His life, death, and resurrection.  And the Spirit will always be prompting us to follow Jesus' lead.  Always.

I will share a verse(s) that shows Jesus being and/or bearing fruit of the Spirit.  The whole Bible points to Jesus, and His character is in every single book, so this list is by no means exhaustive!

  • Jesus is love: John 15:9-13; 1 John 4:7-21
  • Jesus is joy: John 15:11
  • Jesus is peace: Ephesians 2:13-16; Isaiah 9:6; John 14:27
  • Jesus is patience: 1 Timothy 1:16
  • Jesus is kindness: Titus 3:4-7; Ephesians 2:4-7
  • Jesus is goodness: Acts 10:34-38; John 10:10-11
  • Jesus is faithfulness: John 12:27; Hebrews 2:17-18
  • Jesus is gentleness: Matthew 11:25-30
  • Jesus is self-control: Matthew 26:53-54
Jesus is the Fruit of the Spirit!!  We can't pick and choose which fruit to bear, because it's all wrapped up in Him πŸ’“

I want to end this study by echoing the words of Peter, which he wrote to the believers of his day.  These believers had been scattered miles and miles away from their homes.  We all need someone like Peter in our lives, encouraging us to follow the Lord and to bear fruit for the kingdom.  Let's try to be that for each other!!

"Therefore, brothers and sisters, be all the more diligent to make certain about His calling and choice of you; for as long as you practice these things, you will never stumble; for in this way the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be abundantly supplied to you.  Therefore, I will always be ready to remind you of these things, even though you already know them and have been established in the truth which is present with you."  2 Peter 1:10-12
