2 Peter 2

Peter closes chapter one with a reminder that he was an eyewitness to Jesus’ ministry, and is a confirmed prophet speaking God’s Word through the Holy Spirit. He then uses that authority to expose false prophets and teachers for what they are.  As chapter one was an encouragement  to layer Godly attributes on a foundation of faith and allegiance to Christ Jesus, so chapter two is a warning against those who make it their Main Goal to topple you from that foundation, using every trick imaginable.  Proverbs 26:11 is referenced.

The early church was plagued by so called prophets and teachers, those who falsely pledged allegiance to Christ as a means to an end.  And that end was then, and is now, destruction!!! They are so sneaky, trying to add just enough “truth” to appeal to our senses, but they deny Jesus with their actions.  They walk so boldly the wrong way, as if they are untouchable by God’s judgement.  Even the powerful angels faced judgement-they didn’t have the nerve to speak in God’s presence like these false teachers do.  ðŸ˜³Noah and Lot lived among just these kind of wicked people.  Their rescue in the midst of destruction that ended in extinction, proved we can trust God, who is willing and able to save those He loves and who love Him.  These unrighteous people will pretend to be on your side, on God’s side, all while plotting your failure.  They sin in broad daylight, they despise authority, and their work is leading others astray.  Their wages for this is what they deserve—wrong for wrong.  God can not only rescue us, but He can restrain the ungodly until the day of judgement.  He hasn’t forgotten that he has condemned unrighteousness to eternal judgement, and the condemnation has no expiration date.

This chapter changes me by opening my eyes to the sinister motives around me.  Everything is NOT peace and love when it comes to our enemy, the roaring lion, Satan and his minions.  I’ve often wondered why anyone would care who worships Who.  But because Jesus is the only Way, and those facing eternal judgement know that to be true, there’s a battle for dominion and power.  Jesus is the authority and they despise authority.  But I can rest in the knowledge that although it affects me, the battle is not mine but God’s.  He has set forth the judgement and He will carry it through. I only have to live based on the building blocks outlined in chapter one, and watch and wait for victory that only is accomplished through King Jesus. O praise Him!!!
